Simone Biles' husband, Jonathan Owens, will be able to watch her during the competitions at the Olympic Games in Paris for the first time.
On Sunday, the 27-year-old Olympic champion qualified for the games in Paris, dominating the Olympic trials in the USA. And her husband, a gymnast, was visible in the stands, standing and supporting her.
«We're going to Paris», - Owens wrote on social media after Biles secured her spot in Paris.
After that, Biles mentioned that Owens will not be at the games the whole time, but he will be present.
«The Bears really gave him a few days off from training camp, so he’ll be there, yeah», - Biles said. «For a short time… It’s super exciting that we can be in our environment and support each other’s dreams and goals. These are memories that we create and we can’t get back».
Owens signed a two-year contract with the Bears this offseason after playing one season for the Green Bay Packers and the previous four seasons for the Houston Texans. He is expected to report to the Bears' training camp on July 19, just nine days before the start of the women’s team competition in the qualifying round. The Bears are also scheduled to participate in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio on August 1, coinciding with the women’s all-around final in Paris, where Biles is considered a favorite to make the final.
The defender was unable to travel to Tokyo in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Biles withdrew from several events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, citing mental health issues and experiencing «twists» that caused her to lose her orientation in the air during competitions.
The couple reportedly started dating in 2020 and got married on April 22, 2023. He admitted that he did not know the seven-time Olympic medalist until they started dating, meaning he missed his chance to see Biles win at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
However, at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Biles is confident that she will be able to bounce back after the Tokyo Games. It will be a great experience for her husband to see it live as she strives for another gold medal
