A tragic event occurred in Oregon: a man killed his girlfriend, her teenage son, and her grandmother, before taking his own life. According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, the bodies of Katie Lynn Kinder, her 15-year-old son Evan Scott Kinder, and her 78-year-old mother Patricia Lynn Campbell were found in their home in Happy Valley on October 20.
The incident became known when Katie’s employer reported to the police that she had not shown up for work on October 19. The police were unable to contact her, and the employer reached out to authorities again the following day, after which law enforcement officials entered the home and discovered the bodies.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Katie’s boyfriend, Edward Villa, also had not shown up for work on October 19 and 20. A warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of first-degree murder. On October 21, Villa was found in a hotel in Hammond, where he engaged in a brief shootout with the police. According to the sheriff, when officers arrived at the scene, they heard a gunshot from Villa’s room, after which he was found dead.
Katie’s relatives released a statement expressing their grief over the loss. They noted that their family is experiencing a nightmare that no one should have to endure, and that they have lost three wonderful people.
Authorities have not yet disclosed any possible motives for Villa’s actions, how long he had been dating Katie, or whether there was a history of domestic violence. The sheriff’s office thanked various law enforcement agencies for their assistance in the investigation.
