After almost three years, the selection of jurors for Alec Baldwin’s case regarding the accidental shooting on the set of the movie «Rust», - which led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, has begun. This happened today, on Tuesday, July 9.

In 2021, during the filming of «Rust» — a movie that had not yet been released — the 66-year-old actor was rehearsing a scene that required a Colt .45 revolver as a prop when the gun went off, ultimately killing a 42-year-old crew member.

This news shocked the actor from «Beetlejuice», - and the next day he shared on social media: «There are no words to convey my shock and sadness over the tragic incident that led to the death of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply respected colleague… I am fully cooperating with the police investigation to determine how this tragedy occurred and am in touch with her husband, offering him my support. My heart breaks for her husband, their son, and everyone who knew and loved Halyna».

Alec was charged with involuntary manslaughter by a grand jury in January, but the charge was dismissed in April. The trial is scheduled for July 19.

During an interview with ABC News in 2021, he shared: «I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger. Never… Someone put a live round in the gun, a round that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property».

Since her passing, he has honored the memory with an anniversary of the horrific day. He posted a picture of Halyna on Instagram and wrote: «One year ago today…».

Crew member Hannah Gutierrez Reed was sentenced to 18 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter. «I didn’t hear you take responsibility in your statement. You said you were sorry, but not sorry for what you did… You turned a safe weapon into a deadly one… If it weren’t for you, Miss Hutchins would be alive, her husband would have his partner, and the little boy would have his mother», - said Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer from New Mexico
