National advisor to Trump, Mike Waltz, is leaving his position

It seems that there is a reshuffling happening in the White House. A month after the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic revealed a group chat on Signal involving several officials from the Donald Trump administration, his national security advisor, Mike Waltz, has announced his departure from his position. Naturally, many are wondering whether he was fired or left of his own accord.
Before becoming Trump’s national security advisor, Waltz served as the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 6th congressional district from 2019 to 2025. Prior to that, Waltz served in the special forces, becoming the first soldier elected to Congress.
Waltz also worked in the administration of former President George W. Bush as the director of defense policy and counterterrorism advisor to former Vice President Dick Cheney.
After winning the 2024 election, Trump chose Waltz as his national security advisor, calling him an «expert on threats from China, Russia, Iran, and global terrorism» and a «supporter of my 'America First' foreign policy agenda and will be a huge advocate for our pursuit of peace through strength» in a statement at that time.
Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, were fired from their positions, according to Fox News. The media also reported that Trump is expected to discuss this issue publicly at some point.
Waltz’s dismissal came as a surprise to some, as Trump told NBC News that Waltz was a «good guy» and had «learned his lesson» from his mistake in the Signal group chat.
The White House has not yet provided a specific reason for Waltz’s dismissal. However, his removal came a few weeks after his scandal with the Signal group chat, for which he took «full responsibility», - according to a statement obtained by Fox News.
