Naomi Watts is diligently working on her first book, and she says it’s not a typical celebrity memoir.

On Tuesday, the 55-year-old actress announced that her book «Dare I Say: Everything I Wanted to Know About Menopause» will hit shelves in January. And, as the title implies, the book is intended as a guide to menopause and other aspects of a woman’s aging.

«This is a book about how my life turned upside down when I was told I was close to menopause at 36! Right when I was ready to start a family», - wrote the star of «Mulholland Drive» on Instagram.

Watts' book, which will include her personal story, anecdotes from her own experience with menopause, and conversations with friends and experts, stems from her desire to help women feel less alone and break the taboo surrounding menopause, a natural stage of aging.

«When I struggled with feelings of shame and secrecy, I wanted there to be an open conversation. A guide that I could secretly flip through. Unfortunately, there were no real resources. Not even well-informed doctors», - she added.

«Feeling embarrassed, lonely, and unsupported at this stage of life, Watts was determined to do better for herself and other women, and boldly began using her platform to normalize conversations about this natural process», - reads the press release about the upcoming book, which will include a foreword by Dr. Mary Claire Haver.

Watts, already a leading voice in menopause health advocacy, previously wrote the introduction to the book «Menopause Is Hot: Everything You Need to Know to Thrive» by Mariella Frostrup and Alice Smellie, founded the menopause-focused brand Stripes, and began co-hosting The New Pause symposium in 2022.

«I had a lot of anxiety before starting this business, and then I just felt that every woman will reach this point. Why aren’t we getting better care?» she said at the time. «There's just a lack of education and research».

«Menopause is part of a woman’s middle age, but middle age is much more than menopause», - she emphasized in a statement. «We all must hold our heads high. We are older, we are wiser, and WE ARE NOT DONE! We have earned our STRIPES ❤️»
