Neil Cavuto was recognized for his dedication and hard work. For almost 30 years, the former Fox anchor overcame some of the toughest moments, keeping his job. During the announcement of his departure in 2024, Neil thanked his bosses for their patience as he dealt with «day or two here and there, battling everything from multiple sclerosis and COVID to countless infections, even open heart surgery».

«I may not have been lucky with my health, but I have been very lucky with the support I received here, and the things I got to do here, because I could do what I love to do — tell the news», - Neil said, announcing his departure from the network in December 2024.

Learn about Neil’s health and how he overcame all the difficulties here.

Neil recalled what led to his open heart surgery during a 2016 interview with The Wrap, calling this health crisis «horrible» for him. At that time, he had already overcome obstacles of cancer and multiple sclerosis.

«I had low cholesterol, if you can believe it, because my food pyramid consists of Italian sausage and cannoli», - Neil jokingly remarked. «When I was doing the stress test, I noticed all these guys in white coats coming down to me. I thought, 'This is strange'».

Doctors decided that Neil needed bypass surgery as soon as possible. He had chest pains and difficulty breathing.

«It was the most intense pain I had ever experienced. I had a pretty high pain threshold», - Neil said. «Before I had cancer, I was a wimp with needles. When you have chemotherapy, you overcome the fear of needles. With multiple sclerosis, I got used to constant fatigue, but this, this was horrible. When they tear open your chest, stop your heart, and hook you up to a machine for four hours while they operate on you, you come out of it just writhing in pain».

Multiple sclerosis is a condition where the immune system attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers, interrupting signals between a person’s brain and body, according to the Mayo Clinic. Patients living with MS may experience weakness or numbness in the body, walking problems, changes in vision, or other symptoms.

Neil was diagnosed with MS in 1997, according to Brain & Life. His diagnosis came ten years after he beat cancer. «It was hard for me to accept that I had MS ten years after beating cancer», - he said. «The likelihood of developing both is approximately 2 million to 1».
