Nelly Furtado impressed with her performance as part of the NPR Tiny Desk concert series in a video released on Friday, May 24th. Playing a career-spanning 20-minute set, the 45-year-old Nelly brought her classic hits to the studio with a large ensemble. During the performance, she was dressed in a white top that looked like a wet t-shirt, revealing a black bra underneath.
In addition to the white top and black bra, the «Promiscuous» singer also wore dark jeans, a choker, a long necklace with a star pendant, and large rings in her ears. Throughout the performance, Nelly also sang her songs with a cool, relaxed vibe, showcasing her groove alongside her ensemble. She also demonstrated some dance moves, rapping, and singing her hits.
Nelly performed 11 songs in her debut Tiny Desk performance. Her setlist included classic hits such as «Promiscuous» and her remix of Missy Elliott’s «Get Ur Freak On», - as well as new songs like «Love Bites». She ended the performance with her classic hit «Maneater». During the performance, she also thanked her frequent collaborator Timbaland and said he should have his own Tiny Desk concert.
Introducing her ensemble, Nelly also revealed that her former and longtime friend DJ Lil Jaz (real name Jasper Gahunia) plays in the ensemble, and she congratulated their daughter, whom they are raising together. «And last but not least, we have a true retro here today. From my original crew, this is DJ Lil Jaz, an incredible pioneer in the world of scratching», - she said. «This set was curated by my daughter Nevis, who is his mom. And thank you, Nevis, great job!» In addition to DJ Lil Jaz, Nelly noted that many members of her ensemble are people she has worked with for a long time.
