Unfortunately, the cancellation of TV shows has become a common occurrence. Over the past year, dozens of viewer-favorite series, both on broadcast channels and streaming platforms, have been shut down by their networks. Now, Netflix has shocked fans by canceling the new project from the Duffer brothers, «Boro"—an adult series that was supposed to be a continuation of «Stranger Things» and last more than one season. What happened? Why was the show unexpectedly canceled?

In a previous interview with IGN, showrunner Jeffrey Addis noted that they had a plan for three seasons.

«We have a very specific plan for three seasons, and we think we know the last shot of the last scene of the last episode», - Addis said in May 2026. «How we get there may change a bit, but we have answers to all the questions and a plan for how and when to reveal them. We wanted the first season to feel emotionally complete while leaving some questions unanswered. We really wanted you to feel like you got a full story, in case this is all we can do. If the show is successful, we would like to tell you a bit more about what’s happening».

Hollywood Life reports the latest news on the reasons for the cancellation of «Boro».

Yes, as mentioned, it seems that «Boro» was indeed planned for more than one season, according to the creators and showrunners.

According to Deadline, there were discussions about renewing the show and bringing back the main cast. A writers' room for the second season had also been created, and sources reported that the possibility of filming the second and third seasons back-to-back was being considered.

Netflix has not publicly explained the reasons for canceling «Boro». However, as is often the case with unsuccessful shows, the main factor is typically the number of viewers.

According to Deadline, «Boro» garnered about 9.5 million views in its first week on the streaming platform. However, the following week, the viewership dropped to 3.7 million, which evidently seemed too low for Netflix to justify a new season. In comparison to «Stranger Things», - «Boro's» ratings did not meet expectations.

The main stars of «Boro» include Hollywood veterans Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman
