Two major television stations, Sinclair Broadcast Group and Nexstar Media Group, are «bumping» Jimmy Kimmel Live! despite ABC’s show restoration. The companies own several television stations affiliated with ABC, which is owned by The Walt Disney Company. Here we will explain what Nexstar is, which ABC stations it controls, and how it affects Jimmy Kimmel.

Nexstar is the largest owner of television stations in the United States as of 2025. It owns 197 stations nationwide. Nexstar currently operates The CW and The CW Plus.

Like Sinclair Broadcast Group, Nexstar also refuses to air Jimmy Kimmel Live! even after ABC restored the show.

On September 23, 2025, Nexstar released a statement saying, «Last week we made the decision to suspend airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! after ABC deemed Mr. Kimmel’s comments 'inappropriate and sensitive' at a critical moment in our national dialogue. We support this decision in anticipation of assurances that all parties are willing to contribute to creating an atmosphere of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve».

«Meanwhile, we note that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be available nationwide on several Disney-owned streaming products, while our stations will continue to produce local news and other programs relevant to their markets», - Nexstar stated.

The updated press release was titled «Company will monitor the show upon its return to ABC».

Like Sinclair, Nexstar pointed to a comment made by Kimmel regarding Tyler Robinson, a suspect in the murder of Charlie Kirk.

«The MAGA gang is desperately trying to portray this guy who killed Charlie Kirk as someone else, and is doing everything possible to gain political advantage from this», - Kimmel said in an episode of his late-night show on September 15, 2025. «There was grief between mutual accusations».

Shortly after that, Nexstar warned Disney and the public that it would not show Kimmel’s show in the «foreseeable future» and added that it «strongly objects to Mr. Kimmel’s recent comments regarding the murder of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programs on its ABC-affiliated stations».

Shortly after the news of Kirk’s death became known, Kimmel released an official statement on Instagram, expressing his condolences to the Kirk family.

«Instead of bitter mutual accusations, can we at least agree for one day that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another person?» Kimmel wrote in an Instagram post. «On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents, and innocents who have become victims of senseless gun violence»
