In West Virginia, a woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her husband and adult daughter, leaving their bodies to burn in a fire. According to the West Virginia State Police, Nicole Taylor has been charged with first-degree murder, arson, and using a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with the deaths of her husband, Robert Taylor III, and daughter, Cynthia Taylor.
The incident occurred a year before Nicole’s arrest, which took place in late September 2025 in Harpers Ferry. After the fire started, Nicole, 55, reportedly escaped the house after sustaining significant burn injuries. She was airlifted to a regional burn center for treatment. The remains of Robert, 56, and Cynthia, 21, were found in the house, prompting an investigation. A year after the fire, investigators concluded that both Robert and Cynthia likely died before the house caught fire.
Police believe that Nicole shot her husband multiple times, who died from gunshot wounds. At the same time, investigators did not disclose how they believe Cynthia died. Authorities learned about the fire when they were called to the scene around 9 a.m. to extinguish it. Upon arrival, police noted that two other adult children of Nicole and Robert sustained minor injuries but survived.
The investigation became criminal in October 2025 after the Office of the State Fire Marshal determined that the fire was arson. Additionally, a separate investigation by state police linked Nicole to the murder of Robert and the fire itself. Nicole was arrested on September 22 and is currently being held in the Eastern Regional Jail without bail. It is unclear whether she has entered a plea or hired an attorney following her arrest. The West Virginia State Police did not respond to a request for comment on the case and additional information.
