Welcome back to the 1930s! The new Spider-Noir series from Amazon MGM Studios, starring Nicolas Cage, brings the black-and-white and color palette back to cinema, allowing viewers to watch the show in both formats.
In an interview with Esquire in February 2026, Nicolas revealed that the idea to offer both formats was his.
«I understand why they decided to do it in both formats, and I suggested it from the very beginning», - noted the actor, known for the film «National Treasure». «I remember when Amazon was just starting to think about this, they were worried about the black-and-white. And I said, 'You don’t have to do it only in black-and-white. You can do it in color too, because it’s for all ages.' For people who don’t have much experience with black-and-white, they can enjoy the color. And the color is really beautiful. But the black-and-white is what attracted me».

The series indeed tells the story of a more mature version of Spider-Man, but it sharply contrasts with the teenage Peter Parker that audiences know and love. Producer Chris Miller previously described the character to Esquire as «very different from Peter Parker in the movies. He’s older and disillusioned, and he’s not afraid to punch someone in the face while drunk».
Co-producer Phil Lord added that Ben «has already gone through his disillusionment in Chinatown many years ago».
Showrunner Oren Uziel further explained that the young character of Peter Parker «is very associated with being a teenager. A kid. On the path to success, while Ben Reilly has 'already gone through the whole journey and seen everything. He’s tired of it and trying to move on. But his past continues to haunt him. It’s just a different version that we haven’t seen yet.'»
In the Spider-Noir cast, Nicolas plays Ben Reilly, also known as the Spider: the main private detective. He is joined by Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, Lee Jung-jae as Cat Hardy, Karen Rodriguez as Janet, Jack Huston as Flint Marko, and Brendan Gleeson as Silverman.
Spider-Noir will premiere on May 25, 2026.
