Neil Cavuto from the program Your World with Neil Cavuto and Cavuto Live is no longer a member of the Fox News family. On December 19, 2024, the long-time host announced his departure from the network, cryptically stating that he had been planning it for some time and that «it seems like a good time» to leave. «Neil Cavuto’s brilliant career has been a master class in journalism, and we are extremely proud of his incredible 28-year tenure at Fox News Media», - a statement released by the conservative network reads. «His programs have defined business news and set the standard for the entire industry. We wish him a heartfelt farewell and all the best in his next chapter».
Fans of the host were left puzzled. So why did Neil Cavuto leave Fox News? Read below to find out what we know.
Cavuto is best known for his long tenure at Fox News. He is a news anchor, business journalist, leader, and commentator who hosted programs such as Cavuto Live, Your World With Neil Cavuto, and Cavuto Coast to Coast on Fox News Business. He was born on Long Island and previously worked as a reporter and anchor at CNBC. According to NJ.com, he is married to Mary Fulling and is the father of three children. The family resides in New Jersey.
Cavuto did not give a specific reason for his unexpected departure from Fox News. However, he noted that he had been with the network for quite a long time. «Some of you might think, 'Well, Neil, it’s about time!' I’ve been here for almost three decades», - he joked. Nevertheless, he said that he is not leaving the industry. «You know, there are people working with me now who weren’t even born when I started working at Fox — that’s how old I am», - he continued. «But I’m not leaving journalism, I’m just leaving here».
Neil added that the network offered him a «very generous chance» to stay. However, he also acknowledged that in recent years he had been dealing with health issues that led to «days spent battling everything from multiple sclerosis and COVID to countless infections, even open-heart surgery». While he admitted that his health presented a challenge, he also felt «lucky» to have such a high-profile job.
«Maybe I’ve been unlucky in health, but very lucky in the support I’ve gotten here, and in what I’ve been able to do here, because I could do what I love — reporting the news», - he explained in his statement. «Not shouting the news. Not sensationalizing the news. Not — well, name-calling, just calling things by their names, following the news, holding truth to power and justice to all. That’s all, that’s me».
As mentioned above, Cavuto said in his statement that he is not leaving journalism. However, at the time of publication of this article, he had not yet announced where he might go next. Former colleague Chris Wallace, also from Fox News, moved to CNN two years after leaving Fox News, so there are some speculations that Cavuto may do the same.
Will Cain from Fox & Friends Weekend has replaced Neil on Fox News. He will take over the coveted 4:00 pm time slot on Fox News with The Will Cain Show
