Nima Momeni was found guilty of second-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of Cash App co-founder Bob Lee in April 2023. Momeni was officially convicted in December 2024 after the jury deliberated for a week. Initially, he was charged with first-degree murder.

The accusation claimed that Momeni planned the attack on Lee because Lee introduced Momeni’s sister to a drug dealer who allegedly sexually assaulted her. However, Momeni claimed that Lee attacked him first, and that he acted in self-defense rather than in a premeditated attack.

Below you will learn more about Momeni, his case, and his trial in the death of Lee.

Momeni worked as a technology consultant until his arrest in 2023, according to various sources. According to the New York Post, Momeni headed the company Expand IT, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, which helped other companies in cybersecurity and information technology.

Momeni’s net income is unknown, but is estimated to be between 1 and 6 million dollars according to various sources.

Momeni and Lee knew each other. According to CBS News, Momeni’s sister introduced him to Lee, hoping they would work together on technological projects.

Momeni’s sister is Hazar Eliasnia. She is married to Dino Eliasnia, and the couple lives in San Francisco, according to KRON4.

Eliasnia described Lee as «unbalanced» and «aggressive» under the influence of drugs, according to CBS News. Furthermore, she described how the drug dealer introduced by Lee allegedly sexually assaulted her.

«I couldn’t move. I woke up twice, just opened my eyes, and lost consciousness again», - Eliasnia allegedly said in court. «When I lost consciousness, we were both lying face down. He was walking around in little red shorts. I woke up in a swimsuit. I started crying, I had never cried like that before».

Momeni faces imprisonment ranging from 16 years to life, according to The New York Times.
