Nora O’Donnell finally said goodbye to the CBS Evening News, which she called «the honor of a lifetime».

On Thursday, January 23, the anchor and journalist reminisced about her time on the program during the final broadcast, saying: «The CBS Evening News is the longest-running evening news program in America, and it has been supported by the best journalists from around the world — correspondents, producers, researchers, and camera crews who tirelessly work to bring you the news every evening. And that won’t change, because journalism matters. I know this because I have heard it from many of you, the viewers».

«So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting us and welcoming serious news with open hearts into your homes».

O’Donnell is an American television journalist and former anchor of the CBS Evening News.

She is best known for her role as anchor and managing editor of CBS Evening News, a position she took on in 2019. Prior to this, O’Donnell worked as a co-host of CBS This Morning and a correspondent for 60 Minutes. Throughout her career, she has covered major news events, including presidential elections, international conflicts, and breaking news, earning numerous awards for her journalism.

O’Donnell is now 51 years old, and she celebrated her birthday on January 23.

In July 2024, when O’Donnell officially announced her decision to step down from the evening news program, the journalist reportedly wrote a letter to staff. In it, she stated: «After this year’s elections, I have decided to leave my position as anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News to take on a new role within the network».

«There is so much work to be proud of! But I have spent 12 years in the anchor chair here at CBS News, tied to the daily broadcast and the challenges of the relentless news cycle», - O’Donnell noted, before explaining her reason for leaving: «It's time for a change».

Thus, as she leaves the evening news program, O’Donnell will remain at CBS News as a senior correspondent.

«I am pleased to announce that I have made a long-term commitment to CBS News to continue to do the same stories and conduct the big interviews that have become our hallmark. I will continue to contribute to Evening News and all of our news programs, including 60 Minutes».

O’Donnell will be replaced by former 60 Minutes correspondent John Dickerson and CBS anchor Maurice DuBois
