From kisses with aliens to several cloned Eminems to stunning outfits, the MTV Video Music Awards 2024 had many memorable moments. This year’s show marked the 40th anniversary since its founding in 1984. The evening, hosted by Megan Thee Stallion, was filled with dancing, singing, and, of course, plenty of awards.
Viewers witnessed a new perspective on music awards when first-time winner Chappell Roan received the award for «Best New Artist», - and Katy Perry, recipient of the 2024 Video Vanguard Award for her outstanding career, delivered a performance of a lifetime.

Sabrina Carpenter was undoubtedly one of the artists many were eagerly awaiting, as 2024 was her year with hits like «Espresso», - «Please, Please, Please», - and «Taste», - which she performed in a medley. During her performance of her latest track, featuring Jenna Ortega in the music video, she danced around an alien and an astronaut, singing «And singing about it doesn’t mean I don’t care / Yes, I know I’m known for my division», - playfully pushing away the astronaut and heading for a kiss with the alien.
Karol G made everyone show off their Latin dance moves by performing her recent single «Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido». The 33-year-old Colombian singer got the entire audience on their feet, dancing to merengue. Taking the stage at MTV, she approached the crowd, where industry colleagues like Taylor Swift, Post Malone, and Camila Cabello were seated, encouraging them to dance along with her.
Katy Perry was one of the brightest stars of the evening, receiving the MTV Video Vanguard Award and joining past recipients like Shakira, who was honored in 2023. To celebrate her achievements throughout her entire music career, the 39-year-old singer performed a medley of her best hits, including «California Gurls», - «Teenage Dream», - «Lifetimes», - and others.
In her touching speech, she thanked her husband, Orlando Bloom, who presented the award, her daughter Daisy Dove, and her fan base. She addressed her fans, saying: «My Katy Cats!
