New survey: one third of women do not see gender equality issues New survey: one third of women do not see gender equality issues
March — Women’s History Month — a month dedicated to highlighting the ongoing struggle for gender equality and the well-being of women. And considering that issues concerning women are at the forefront of American politics, a new survey may surprise everyone. New data shows that a third of women (34%) did not report any pressing issues of gender equality in their lives, as stress levels continue to rise among women in the United States. A Censuswide survey of over 2000 adults (21+), conducted by Northerner.com, showed that in 2025, only a small minority of women identified gender equality in sports as an urgent issue for them. These results emphasize that women have other, more important issues when it comes to everyday life.

While the news cycle intensifies debates on gender issues on both sides of the spectrum, the survey points to a more nuanced reality with generational divides in women’s priorities. Young women (21−24 years old) were most concerned about reproductive rights and access to healthcare (48%), while older women (55+) were more likely to report no pressing gender-related issues (45%).

Gender equality in sports: This political minefield is not a concern for women

Headlines cover this polarizing issue in American politics, but less than 9% of female respondents felt that gender equality in sports was a pressing issue in their lives. Perhaps this means that cultural wars do not penetrate everyday life. Or, as survey responses indicate, safety from violence and harassment, support for mental health, reproductive rights and access to healthcare, representation in leadership and politics, maternal health and well-being, access to affordable childcare all rank higher when it comes to the real world. Among women who acknowledged inequalities, 26% cited equal pay and workplace equality as their main issues, which is supported by research on the topic. Women earn 84 cents for every dollar earned by a man, a gender pay gap that spans all professions, even those traditionally held by women, according to a report published by IWPR last year. Their analysis also showed that women earn less than men for a full day’s work in all 20 largest professions for women and all 20 largest professions for men.

«Women have long coped with demanding environments and societal pressures — a combination that triggers unique behavioral patterns», - said Dr. Marina Murphy, Senior Director of Scientific Affairs at Northerner.com. «Research shows that women are good at seeking social support and rely on close connections in stressful periods. However, it is not surprising that stress and tensions can also hinder resistance to bad habits, such as smoking. This natural human response to stress makes it even more important to have viable alternatives, such as nicotine pouches, which can provide nicotine without the need to inhale deadly toxic cigarette smoke».

Data on pressing issues for women may be a sign of progress, or it may simply mean that the movement for gender equality (like everything else in the US) is going through some changes. In any case, women of all states and socio-economic and racial groups have different experiences and priorities. And since it is Women’s History Month, let’s pay attention to what real women are reporting, as opposed to the mainstream narrative
