If you’re looking for a series that combines elements of horror, the unusual, and a gripping plot, «Widow's Bay» should be your next obsession. The new Apple TV+ project mixes eerie folkloric elements with sharp humor and unfolds in a «cozy island town located 40 miles off the coast of New England», - according to the description, which also hints: «But something lurks beneath the surface».

The lead role in the series is played by Matthew Rhys, who portrays Mayor Tom Loftis, striving to revive his struggling community.

«There's no Wi-Fi, cell service is spotty, and [Mayor Tom] has to deal with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed», - states the series logline. «He wants these people to respect him. They don’t respect him. They think he’s soft and cowardly. And he really is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenager and turn the island into a tourist attraction. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists finally start to arrive. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too absurd begin to come true again».

Hollywood Life shares what you need to know before diving into «Widow's Bay».

As mentioned, «Widow's Bay» takes place on a remote island off the coast of New England. The plot centers around Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys), a kind leader who is determined to revive this struggling town that the locals believe is cursed.

When tourists start to arrive, long-forgotten supernatural beings return to the town, plunging it into chaos.

The series combines enough wit and horror to delight viewers with unexpected moments and well-deserved comedic scenes. Created by Katie Dippold and directed by Hiro Murai, the show relies on its concept, blending elements of mystique, satire, and touching scenes.

Rhys leads the show as Mayor Tom and exclusively told Hollywood Life about the «very big, big twists in the show» that viewers can expect.

«The main thing is that there are very big, big twists in the show, very extreme moments», - Rhys said, adding that he needed to react appropriately to the extreme moments, referring to the more frightening scenes he filmed.

The actor, known for his role in «The Beast Inside», - who will also appear in the second season of «Presumed Innocent», - discussed his projects that he filmed back-to-back, aside from «Widow's Bay».

«It's a luxury because if you look at the last three projects, they were completely different», - the actor noted about his recent works. «So the opportunity to work in such different genres was a huge pleasure».

The rest of the cast of «Widow's Bay» includes Kate O’Flynn as Patricia, Stephen Root as Wyke, Kingston Rumi Southwick as Evan, Kevin Carroll as Bechir, and Dale Dickey as Rosemary.

«Widow's Bay» premieres on April 29, 2026. The ten-episode season will start with several episodes on the release day, with new episodes airing every Wednesday until mid-June 2026.

Viewers will be able to watch «Widow's Bay» exclusively on Apple TV+. The platform will release new episodes weekly, making it perfect midweek entertainment
