O.J. Simpson, presumably, died owing millions of dollars to Ron Goldman’s family. The lawyer for the Goldman family spoke after the death of the 76-year-old this week and stated that Simpson’s debt had accumulated in the form of interest over the past few decades.
«He died without repentance», - said David Cook, the lawyer for Goldman’s father, to PEOPLE. «He didn’t want to give Fred a cent, never, nothing, never».
It was reported that Simpson was ordered to pay $ 33.5 million to the Goldman and his ex-wife Nicole Brown’s families after he was found liable in a wrongful death civil suit in 1997. Cook claimed that the debt now amounts to $ 114 million after the interest has grown. He also noted that the court decision was updated in 2022.
PEOPLE reported that legal documents for 2022 showed that Simpson had only paid $ 133,000 to the Goldman family since 1997. Cook added: «He [still] owes the amount per the current status of the court’s decision».
The lawyer also mentioned that the Goldman family plans to hire lawyers in the states of Nevada, Florida, and California to find out where Simpson’s money will go now that he has passed away.
«We need to hire a lawyer or several lawyers who deal with this, very smart people, to determine who this is or who this will be, and [start] taking testimonies from people and/or finding out who they are and what information we need», - Cook explained to the publication. «This is a big problem».
He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

On June 12, 1994, Simpson’s ex-wife, Brown, and her friend Goldman were murdered at her home in Los Angeles. Simpson was accused of their murders but was later acquitted after a lengthy trial that lasted from 1994 to 1995.
Although Simpson was acquitted, Fred Goldman filed a civil suit against the former athlete in 1997. The jury then found that Simpson was responsible for the deaths of Brown and Ron Goldman.
Simpson’s children announced their father’s death on Thursday, April 11, 2024. After their announcement, Fred Goldman provided a statement to several publications, noting: «It's just a reminder for us of how long Ron has been gone, how much we miss him, and nothing more. That’s the only thing that’s important today. The pain from then until now. Nothing is more important today than the loss of my son and the loss of Nicole. Nothing is more important than that»
