Jay-Z (real name: Shawn Carter) was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 alongside Sean «Diddy» Combs in a lawsuit filed on December 8, 2024. The lawsuit was initially filed in October 2024, but Jay-Z was not named in the original lawsuit by attorney Tony Buzbee. Jay-Z categorically denies the charges brought against him.
Hollywood Life has gathered all the details of the lawsuit against Jay-Z here.
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff, identified as «Jane Doe», - claimed that Combs and Carter assaulted her at a party after the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000. At the time, Doe claimed she was trying to get into various parties after the VMA ceremony, approaching limousine drivers, and one of them claimed to work for Combs. The driver, according to him, told Doe that she was «fitting for what Diddy was looking for» and invited her to the party. After picking her up, the driver brought Doe to a white house where, according to the lawsuit, she had to sign a document, possibly a nondisclosure agreement.
The lawsuit also describes the party as an event full of drugs and celebrities. Doe claimed she was offered a drink that made her feel «dizzy» and «light-headed», - so she went to a room to rest. Shortly after, according to the lawsuit, Combs and Carter entered the room, and Diddy told Doe, «You ready to party!» Then, according to the lawsuit, Jay-Z undressed Doe, held her down, and raped her while Combs watched with an unidentified female celebrity. Doe also claimed in the lawsuit that Combs raped her while Carter and the unknown woman watched.
After the alleged assault, Doe said she «grabbed her clothes» and went to the nearest gas station to call her father.
According to various sources, Jay-Z dated Blu Cantrell in the early 2000s. They did not make public comments about their relationship or breakup.
Jay-Z and his wife, Beyoncé, met between 1999 and 2000 when she was 18 years old. They collaborated on the song «03 Bonnie & Clyde». They married in 2008 and welcomed three children during their marriage.
In response to the lawsuit, Jay-Z issued a statement, which was received by NBC News, calling the allegations «malicious» and «idiotic».
«These allegations are so malicious in nature that I urge you to file criminal charges, not civil!!» his statement read. «Anyone who would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked up, don’t you agree? These alleged victims would deserve real justice if this were true. You made a terrible mistake in your judgment, thinking all 'celebrities' are the same. I am not from your world. I am a young man who made it out of the projects of Brooklyn».
Jay-Z added that he grew up with «very strict codes of honor», - noting: «We don’t play those games. … We protect children».
In the end of his statement, Jay-Z noted that the «only disappointment» from this lawsuit is «for [his] family».
«My wife and I will have to sit down with our children, one of whom is at an age where her friends will undoubtedly see the press and ask questions about the nature of these allegations, and explain the cruelty and greed of people», - he added. «I mourn yet another loss of innocence. Only your network of conspiracy theorists, fake physicists, will believe the idiotic allegations you have brought against me, which, if not for the seriousness of harm to children, would be laughable».
