«Recently, our Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi admitted to the magazine’s editorial staff that she maintained personal relationships with a former subject connected to the 2024 campaign during her reporting on the campaign, which violates the magazine’s standards regarding conflicts of interest and disclosure», - the statement reads. «If the magazine had known about such relationships, she would not have continued to cover the presidential campaign. An internal analysis of her published work did not reveal inaccuracies or signs of bias. She is currently on leave from the magazine, and the magazine is conducting a more thorough analysis by a third party. We regret the breach of trust with our readers».
In her own statement obtained by CNN, Olivia acknowledged that «the nature of some interactions between [her] and the former subject of reporting became personal».
