Olivia Mann is ready to shed light on her journey of battling breast cancer. Over a month after she first shared her diagnosis with the world, the actress opens up about her health and the lessons she has learned so far.

«I wasn’t someone who was obsessed with death or afraid of it in any way, [but] having a young child at home made everything much more frightening», - shared Olivia, 43, in an interview with PEOPLE published on Wednesday, April 17. «You realize that cancer doesn’t care who you are; it doesn’t matter if you have a child or no time. It comes to you, and you have no choice but to face it head-on».

For Olivia, who is raising her two-year-old son Malcolm with partner John Malani, finding out she had breast cancer in 2023 was a surprise after she had received a negative result for the BRCA gene and a clean mammogram result just three months prior.

Under the guidance of her obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Thais Aliabadi, Olivia underwent further testing, which revealed bilateral breast cancer.

«I walked around thinking I didn’t have breast cancer», - she said. «I had all the tests I knew about».

Within 30 days of her breast cancer diagnosis, the «News» series star underwent lymph node dissection, nipple delay procedure, and double mastectomy.

So far, Olivia has not needed radiation therapy or chemotherapy. However, in November 2023, the «X-Men: Apocalypse» actress began hormonal therapy to reduce her future risk. According to PEOPLE, the treatment put her into medical menopause.

As Olivia explained, «I constantly feel hot, my hair is falling out, and I often get tired».

Although the actress kept her diagnosis a secret for several months, she is grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness and remind fans to get medical screenings.

She is also grateful to John, 41, and his support as she went through the ups and downs of breast cancer.

«I would be like climbing an iceberg without him», - she said. «I don’t think he had a moment for himself, meanwhile he was an incredibly caring father and went back and forth from the hospital — taking Malcolm to the park, putting him to bed, going to Cedars-Sinai, spending time with me, going home, putting Malcolm to bed, coming back to me. And he did it all with pleasure»
