On the third evening of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, it was livelier than ever. After several speakers, including several Republicans, one major name took the stage in front of the Chicago crowd to praise Vice President Kamala Harris: Oprah Winfrey.

The 70-year-old television host stepped onto the stage as the crowd erupted in applause and cheers. Oprah began her speech by noting that she «feels honored» to discuss a «topic» that she values in America, namely freedom.

«There are people who want you to see our country as a nation of 'us versus them'», - she said. «People who want to scare you, who want to control you… But here’s the thing: when we stand together, we are unbeatable».

Throughout her speech, the head of the Oprah Winfrey Network emphasized that despite political disagreements between Democrats and Republicans, «we are not so different from our neighbors». She then drew an analogy of how Americans would help each other, setting aside their ideological differences.

«When the house is on fire, we don’t ask about the race or religion of the owner», - she pointed out. «We don’t care who their partner is or how they voted. No, we just try to do everything we can to save them».

Oprah then joked about Donald Trump’s comment about fugitive partner J.D. Vance being a «childless cat lady».

«And if that happens to be a childless cat lady’s place, well, we’ll try to rescue both her and the cat», - Oprah joked.

By the end of her speech, former Oprah Winfrey Show host urged the audience to vote in November as a way to resolve political disagreements.

«Voting is the best in America», - she said. «And I have always, since I started voting, always voted according to my values. And that’s what is needed in this election, now more than ever. So I urge all of you, independents and undecided. You know it’s true. You know I’m telling you the truth: that values and character matter most of all in leadership and in life. And most of all — you know it’s true — that decency and respect are on the ballot in 2024»
