The Country Music Television Awards 2025 ceremony, also known as the CMT Awards, has been canceled by its parent company Paramount Global. The media giant, home to several well-known entertainment platforms such as Paramount+, Paramount Pictures, MTV, Comedy Central, CMT, and others, announced the cancellation in a memo to employees, which was obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. As the CMT Awards have become an anticipated event every year during awards season, why was the show suddenly canceled?
Last year, the CMT Awards took place on April 7, 2024, at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Kelsea Ballerini co-hosted the show and has hosted it several times over the years. She attended the 2024 ceremony with her boyfriend, «Outer Banks» star Chase Stokes.

The cancellation of the CMT Awards 2025 occurred against the backdrop of the merger between Paramount Global and Skydance Media, which began in 2024. In a letter received by THR on February 7, 2025, Paramount CEO Bruce Gilmer informed company employees that they are «pausing» some events in 2025.
«We want to share some news. We are pausing some events in 2025 as we strive to rethink and optimize our event program in the future», - the memo read. «Among them are the MTV EMAs, MTV MIAWs, Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards in Mexico, and CMT Music Awards. Our global events remain a key component of Paramount’s music offering as we continue to raise the bar in providing iconic, unforgettable performances and moments that shape pop culture. We have the best team in the business, and we thank you for your hard work and dedication in organizing these events».
At the time of publication, the American Kids Choice Awards ceremony is still scheduled for March 15, 2025.
The Academy of Country Music Awards 2025 ceremony (known as the ACM Awards) has not been canceled; the ceremony is produced by Amazon Prime Video since 2022.
