The father of six children was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in February 2019 after battling pneumonia and falling at home. Nearly a year later, Ozzy and Sharon appeared on Good Morning America to discuss his diagnosis with journalist Robin Roberts. «It was terribly difficult for all of us», - said the 71-year-old performer to the reporter alongside his wife. After the artist fell at home, he said his nerves were severely damaged.

«I have numbness in this hand after the operation, my legs constantly get cold», - explained Ozzy at the time. Shortly after the fall, he underwent neck surgery, after which he recovered at home over the next year. «I didn’t know what nerve pain was like, and it’s a strange feeling», - he added.

Parkinson’s disease is a condition that affects the nervous system and can significantly impact a person’s nerves, according to the official Mayo Clinic website. One of the early signs, according to the health organization, may be a slow onset of tremors. However, stiffness and slowed movements are other characteristic signs. Other symptoms of Parkinson’s disease include postural instability/balance, loss of automatic movements, changes in speech, changes in handwriting, and more.

Although the disease is incurable, many people can continue to live with medical treatment. Some treatment methods include prescription medications, surgery, and ultrasound. At the time of Ozzy’s diagnosis, Sharon assured his fans that it was «not a death sentence» for her husband. «It's PRKN 2», - said his leading lady and manager at the time. «There are so many different types of Parkinson’s disease; it’s not a death sentence by any means, but it affects certain nerves in your body. And it’s like you have a good day, a good day, and then a very bad day».

Since the rock 'n' roll icon was diagnosed in 2019, he lived with the disease until his death in July 2025. In September 2022, Ozzy and his wife appeared on GMA again to share updates on his health. At that time, they said his Parkinson’s disease was «progressing slowly», - while the consequences of his surgery and fall were causing more difficulties. When asked about his mobility at that time, Ozzy noted that it was «not very good», - and that he had to «negotiate» the movements he made.

During the same interview, Sharon revealed that in June 2022, Ozzy underwent another surgery due to his chronic pains. «These metal plates started coming out… the shards were rubbing against his spinal cord», - she explained. «Sometimes he literally cried from the pain». Ozzy proudly
