Pam Bondi may become part of Donald Trump’s cabinet. After the Republican nominated her for the position of the next Attorney General of the United States, voters wanted to learn more about her education and personal life. Florida residents know Bondi as their former Attorney General, a position she held from 2011 to 2019.
Learn more about Bondi’s legal experience and career below.
Bondi studied at the University of Florida and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. After obtaining a Juris Doctor degree from Stetson University College of Law, she was admitted to the state bar in 1991.
Early in her legal career, Bondi worked as a prosecutor in Hillsborough County, Florida. Over time, she became an assistant state attorney, and then rose to the position of state Attorney General. In 2020, Bondi was one of Trump’s lawyers during his first impeachment.
In November 2024, Trump chose Bondi as the new Attorney General. In his announcement on social media, the president-elect noted that he and Bondi have known each other for «many years».
«Pam was a prosecutor for almost 20 years, where she was very tough on violent criminals and made the streets safe for Florida families», - Trump said of Bondi’s legal career. «Then, as Florida’s first female Attorney General, she worked to end the deadly drug trade and reduce the tragedy of fentanyl deaths that have devastated many families across the country. She did such incredible work that I asked her to join our opioid and drug abuse commission during my first term — we saved many lives».
The Senate must confirm Bondi for the position of Attorney General.
Bondi is currently not married. However, reports indicate that she was engaged to Greg Henderson in 2012. It is unclear if they are still together, as Bondi keeps her personal life away from the public eye.
Previously, Bondi was married to her first husband, Garrett Barnes, from 1990 to 1992. She then married her second husband, Scott Fitzgerald, in 1997. They separated in 2002.
It is unclear if Bondi has children from her previous relationships
