The world of soul music mourns the loss of one of its pioneers, Frankie Beverly, who passed away at the age of 77. His family announced his death in a statement on Tuesday, September 11, saying: «He lived his life with a pure soul, as someone once said, and for us, no one did it better».

Born Howard Stanley Beverly, Frankie became famous in the 1960s, being part of groups such as The Blenders and The Butlers before creating the well-known group Maze. From hits like «Before I Let Go» to «Happy Feelin’s», - originating from Philadelphia, he left an indelible mark on the soul music genre.

The Beverly family shared the news of his passing on Instagram, saying: «The sadness of losing a loved one is a deep and emotional experience. At this time, as we experience feelings of grief, reflection, and memories, we kindly ask for privacy and understanding, allowing us space to grieve in our own way. This period is a time of healing, and your respect for our need for solitude is appreciated, allowing us to honor the memory of our beloved Howard Stanley Beverly, known to the world as Frankie Beverly».

Although the cause of his death was not disclosed, the family continued: «He lived his life with a pure soul, as someone once said, and for us, no one did it better. He lived for his music, family, and friends. Love each other as he would have wanted for all of us».

As news of his passing spread on social media, many began to express their support and memories of what Frankie and his music meant to them. «He left this world as he possibly wanted, with a farewell tour, as if knowing the day was near. You will forever remain in our hearts», - wrote one user under the family’s post on Instagram.

Another person commented: «I'm 37 years old, and I listen to this man every day; the influence he had on black families is unparalleled. Our cleaning Saturdays started with his music. My family used to take us to the Houston rodeo every year, and Maze were always the main act when I was a little girl. It hurt so much when I missed his last concert last year. Waking up and seeing this really broke my heart. Frankie Beverly is and will forever be unique!»
