Michael Annett left a significant legacy in the world of auto racing. He passed away at the age of 39 in December 2025, and the sports community continues to mourn his loss. The cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
NASCAR confirmed the news of Annett’s death in an official statement, which read: «NASCAR is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of former driver Michael Annett. Michael was a respected competitor whose determination, professionalism, and positive spirit were felt by all in the garage. Throughout his career, he represented our sport with the honor and passion of a true racer. NASCAR extends its condolences to Michael’s family and many friends».
The JR Motorsport team also paid tribute to the late driver, noting in a statement on X that he was «a key member of JRM from 2017 until his retirement in 2021 and played an important role in transforming us into the four-car organization we remain today».
«Our thoughts and prayers are with the Annett family following the loss of our friend Michael Annett», - JR concluded its statement.

Annett was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 23, 1986.
Before entering the big leagues, Annett began competing in mini-cup races while still in elementary school. After graduating high school, he started his professional racing career.
Annett’s late father, Harrold, was the CEO of TMC Transportation and helped sponsor his son’s racing efforts in the early stages of his career.
Annett announced his retirement from stock car racing in 2021. In a statement at the time, he described his career as «a dream come true».
«It has been a privilege for me to work with great teams and alongside some of the most talented people in the garage», - Annett said upon his departure. «None of this would have been possible without the support of my partners, and I am grateful to call them friends for life. It is these relationships and friendships that are the most valuable»
