Patrick Mahomes reacted to his teammate Harrison Butker’s controversial remarks during a recent press conference. During a conversation with journalists on Wednesday, May 22, the 28-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback defended Harrison, 28, as a «good person».

«I have known him for seven years. I judge him by the character he shows every day, and he is a good person», - Patrick said at Chiefs practice that day. «He is someone who cares about the people around him, cares about his family, and wants to have a positive influence on society».

Patrick added that he will judge Harrison only by the character he shows every day, and noted, «We will continue to move forward and try to help each other become better every day».

«But ultimately, we will come together as a team, and I think that will also help eliminate those distracting factors outside the building», - explained the athlete, pointing out that he does not «agree» with everything Harrison said. «When you are in the locker room, there are many people from different walks of life, and they have different views on everything. We will not always agree, and there are certain things he said that I do not agree with, but I understand the person he is, and that he is trying to do everything possible to lead people in the right direction».

Although Patrick does not share the «same values» as Harrison, the quarterback noted that some videos from social media with his teammate’s remarks were «taken out of context».

«In the end, it’s about taking a person and their values and everything they do every day, and judging them by that, not by one moment or one performance», - concluded Patrick. «In the building, you can have these healthy discussions and still be friends, even if you do not agree on the exact same thing».

Earlier this month, Harrison made controversial remarks at a ceremony at Benedictine College, where he condemned the LGBTQ+ community and said that «most» female students are «most excited about their marriage and the children they will bring into this world». Additionally, he criticized some of President Joe Biden’s policies and women’s choices in family planning.

The performance sparked widespread protest against Harrison, which has been ongoing for several weeks on social media
