Pauley Perrette is looking forward to more «authenticity» in her life as she transitions away from acting.
In an interview with Hello! on Tuesday, October 1st, the 55-year-old actress expressed that she is «not ungrateful for the benefits that [acting] has given me», - but that she is ready to move forward. In 2020, the NCIS alum announced that she would officially retire from acting after over two decades on television. And four years later, she still stands firm in her decision.
«I am a different person now, and I want to be here for that — the good, the bad, and the painful», - Perrette continued in the interview. «I want to always be myself, and it takes a lot of courage to say that to myself, but it is authentic to what I feel».
Perrette starred in NCIS from 2003 to 2018, becoming one of the most recognizable faces of the series. Although her earnings for the long-running show fluctuated over the years, ultimately reaching $ 200,000 per episode. At the peak of her earnings, this roughly translated to $ 8.5 million per year.
By 2024, Perrette’s net worth is estimated to be around $ 25 million.
After recovering from a massive stroke in 2021, Perrette is now focused on her work behind the camera as a producer on projects, including the 2023 documentary «Studio One Forever», - which explores the history of the now-closed LGBT community disco club Studio One.
«At this stage of my life, I have a deep need to find authenticity in everything, and being an actor — especially at certain moments in my life — was a great escape», - she told the publication. «It's like a drug, because I didn’t have to be myself; I could be someone else. My character didn’t have all the problems that I had».
«So I only watch documentaries now; I want the truth», - Perrette added. «For me, returning to acting would take away this life of true authenticity that I live 100% of the time».
Outside of her acting career, Perrette is also known for her charitable efforts, actively supporting numerous charitable organizations, especially those focused on animal rescue and preventing domestic violence
