A 911 emergency is exactly what it sounds like: a failure in the emergency call system. Therefore, residents in an emergency situation cannot reach 911.
If people are facing an urgent issue or need to report a crime, they cannot call 911 due to the emergency. The consequences of this could lead to widespread chaos, but the state or region can inform residents to call alternative numbers to report an emergency.
Please call 911 only in case of real emergencies. Do not call just to check if it is working…

Residents of Pennsylvania were informed about the 911 emergency during the day. However, PEMA tweeted at 3:46 pm Eastern Time that the 911 system in the state «is experiencing some outages across the Commonwealth» and that they are «working with technical experts to resolve the issue and restore service as quickly as possible».
PEMA also informed residents to «call 911 only in case of real emergencies» and «not to call just to check if it is working». The agency also advised everyone to find their local 911 office at readypa.info/psaps.
At the time of publication, it appears that the 911 system in Pennsylvania is still experiencing issues
