Perseids 2025: how and when to observe the meteor shower?
7 august 2025 в 22:13
The Perseids meteor shower of August 2025 will soon reach its peak visibility, and astronomy enthusiasts are trying to find out when and where they can get the best view of what we call «falling stars». Meteors move quickly, and observing them with the naked eye is a real challenge. This time, the meteor shower will be affected by the illumination of the waning gibbous moon. So how can you observe the current meteor shower and when will it end?
Below are all the details about the Perseids meteor shower of August 2025.
The peak of the upcoming Perseids meteor shower will occur from August 12 to 13, according to NASA and the American Meteor Society. The actual time of the full meteor shower is from July 17 to August 23.
Astronomy enthusiasts should look towards the constellation of Perseus to see the meteor shower. The best time to observe the Perseids is before dawn in the entire Northern Hemisphere. However, depending on your location, the shower can also be seen as early as 10:00 PM, according to NASA.
However, the waning gibbous moon will affect the meteor shower, reducing visibility, according to the American Meteor Society. Only the brightest meteors will be visible in the sky, meaning only a fraction of the so-called «falling stars» will be seen. Instead of the typical 50−100 meteors per hour, as during most other showers, only 10 to 20 meteors will be visible in the sky.
Since the waning moon is currently in the sky, the next full moon — the so-called sturgeon moon — will reach full illumination at around 4:00 AM Eastern Time / 1:00 AM Pacific Time on August 9th
