Although «Emilia Peres» was a breakthrough film for the star, she has been acting for a long time. Since 1995, she has appeared in numerous TV series and soap operas such as «Harina», «40 and 20», «Until the End of Time», and «As the Saying Goes». She has also been involved in films such as «We Are Nobles» and «GEIST», according to her IMDB profile. In 2009, the actress, who was born in Spain, moved to Mexico in search of an acting career.
Carla was unsure about the film because it was a musical. In November 2024, she candidly shared with Vogue: «I thought, 'Well, this can’t be possible.' I thought I was invited just to be weird, and that nothing would come of it. And I hated musicals. It was the last thing I wanted to do».
Carla expressed her desire to play both roles. She told Entertainment Weekly: «I insisted on playing both roles because I know my abilities and knew that I was ready to show my abilities, as they say in Spain, that I have the ability to play a character. When you know what you want to do and what you can do, fight for it. That’s one piece of advice I can give to everyone: go after what they believe in, their dreams, and what they think they can do well».
Carla is married to her wife Marisa Gutierrez, whom she met as a teenager in a Spanish nightclub, and they got married in the mid-20s, according to Us Weekly. Carla and Marisa are raising their 14-year-old daughter, Victoria Gutierrez. Supported by her wife and daughter, the star came out in 2018. When she was 46, she publicly came out. Both her daughter and wife attended the premiere of «Emilia Peres» with her at the New York Film Festival in 2024.
Carla’s acting role as Tia Encarna in «Las Malas» is in the pre-production stage, and her character Jaime in «Women Are Inconvenient» is in the post-production stage
