Pete Davidson recalled his difficult period in 2023 when he hit rock bottom and decided to seek rehabilitation after his mother expressed her concerns. In an interview with Variety on September 30, he shared that at that time he was using six different drugs simultaneously, including ketamine, LSD, mushrooms, inhalants, and marijuana.

The actor, who left Saturday Night Live a year earlier, admitted that while filming the autobiographical series Bupkis, he was constantly consumed by his problems and traumas, which led him to use drugs for relief. Davidson noted that his daily drug use became dangerous as he no longer felt high when taking them and realized it was a serious issue.

An emotional conversation with his mother, Amy Davidson, became a turning point for him. She told him that she feared waking up one day to see something bad about him in the news. This made Pete reflect on his actions, and he decided that he could no longer cause her pain. He left the set of the second season of Bupkis and entered rehabilitation.

Davidson also mentioned that his decision to pursue sobriety was driven not only by his concern for his mother but also by his own desire to change his life. He emphasized that now, as a father, it is easier for him to avoid drugs. His daughter, Scotty, who was born last year, has become his main source of motivation. Pete admitted that his life changed with her arrival, and he now values the time spent with family more than career achievements.
