If you are a fan of the TV show 9−1-1, then you must know that the show has lost one of its main characters: Captain Bobby Nash. Played by actor Peter Krause, the character was killed off in the eighth season in an episode titled «Lab Rats» by a deadly virus. The actor was part of the show for eight seasons, so there is a chance that Peter may return. So, will Bobby be able to return to 9−1-1?

Hollywood Life magazine has all the details about Bobby’s future in 9−1-1 below.

The final moments of Bobby in «Lab Rats» cannot help but bring tears. After it is revealed that he has been infected with the virus, he says an emotional goodbye to Athena.

«So I didn’t want to leave you. I didn’t choose to leave you», - Bobby tells Athena. «I chose to save my team because it was right. It was never because I wanted to leave. I don’t want to leave. If I could choose, I would stay with you. Always».

Peter said that the decision to kill off Bobby was made because his «story honors» the risks that first responders take, according to a statement obtained by Variety.

«I've heard that many fans are upset about this loss, and they have every right to be. It’s a loss», - Peter’s statement read. «Nevertheless, it was not just a bold creative decision in a bold show. Bobby Nash was written as a sacrifice, and he was created for that. First responders risk their lives at work so that others can see another day. His story honors them».

Peter did not leave 9−1-1 by his own choice. However, he did not object to showrunner Tim Minear’s creative decision to kill off Bobby. Tim told Variety in an interview in April 2025 that Peter’s departure was not a decision made by the network.

«I had to convince everyone of this», - Tim said. «The network wasn’t like, 'Yes, get rid of him, it will save us money.' Nothing like that. I had to pitch it at the highest level and just go through the whole story and try to infect them — strange choice of words, given the plot — because when I pitched it, you could understand how suddenly the whole world became more alive. It became more real because it happened».

During an interview on Good Morning America on April 18, 2025, Peter said he would miss all his castmates and called 9−1-1 his «work home for eight years, eight seasons».

The short answer — yes and no. Bobby will return in future episodes of 9−1-1, but not alive. His death is final, but Peter will return to his role in future episodes, Variety reported in April 2025, according to showrunner Tim.

«As for episode 15, this is not Peter Krause’s last appearance in this season», - Tim explained, adding that they shot episode 15 and «aired it as episode 13» so that episodes 14 and 15 would be a two-part story.

«We shot it very quickly so that 14 and 15 could be this two-part story, and then I had three episodes to deal with the aftermath», - Tim explained, adding, «So it’s not like Bobby dies, and then everyone goes about their business. I think you’ll need three episodes for the audience and characters to reckon with this».

Tim concluded that «every subsequent episode of the three» in the eighth season is «all about Bobby’s death».

The main cast of 9−1-1 includes Angela Bassett as Athena Grant-Nash, Oliver Stark as Buck, Aisha Hinds as Hen, Kenneth Choi as Chimney, Rockmond Dunbar as Michael, Connie Britton as Abby, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie, Ryan Guzman as Eddie, and Corinne Massiah as May
