In a new court document, Angelina Jolie accused her ex-husband Brad Pitt of a «history of physical violence» against her prior to their alleged incident on a plane in 2016. The 48-year-old actress’s lawyers filed the documents on Thursday, April 4, against the 60-year-old actor.
«Although Pitt’s physical violence against Jolie began long before the family trip on a plane from France to Los Angeles in September 2016, this flight was the first instance when he also directed his physical violence towards the children», - the documents obtained from various sources stated. «Jolie then immediately left him», - her lawyers added in the documents.
Jolie’s lawyers also claimed that Pitt wanted her to «contractually commit to silence» after he learned in 2021 that she had presented a sealed document about their legal situation, containing «electronic emails, expected family testimonies, and other evidence».
In a statement to Page Six, Jolie’s lawyer Paul Murphy claimed: «Mr. Pitt refused to buy out Miss Jolie when she refused to agree to his NDA. By refusing to buy her out, but then suing her, Mr. Pitt directly questioned why this NDA was so important to him and what he hoped to bury: his violence against Miss Jolie and their family».
Pitt has not publicly responded to Jolie’s new court document yet.
In October 2022, Jolie accused her ex-husband of physically abusing her and their children during a flight back to California in 2016. According to court documents obtained from the Los Angeles Court, Jolie claimed that she and Pitt argued in the plane’s bathroom, where he, according to her, «grabbed her by the head and shook her». She then claimed that he pushed her against the bathroom wall and «hit the plane’s ceiling several times».
One of Pitt and Jolie’s six children — Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne — defended Jolie, and Pitt, according to her, «choked one of his children and hit another». The child’s name was kept confidential in the documents at that time. Jolie also accused Pitt of «spilling beer and red wine on the children».
At that time, the FBI began investigating the incident. However, Pitt was not charged. He also vehemently denied Jolie’s accusations. A representative for the Oscar winner told CNN in 2022 that «Jolie's story continues to change every time she tells it with new, unconfirmed claims. Brad has taken responsibility for what he did, but he will not take responsibility for what he did not do. These new accusations are absolutely false».
Pitt and Jolie were married from 2014 to 2019.
