Canada has chosen its new Prime Minister after former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned as leader of the country’s Liberal Party earlier this year. Opposition leader of the Conservatives, Pierre Poilievre, faced off against Mark Carney of the Liberal Party, and one of them emerged as the winner.

Find out below who won the 2025 Canadian elections.

Poilievre has served as leader of the Conservative Party of Canada since 2022. Previously, he was a Member of Parliament for Carleton from 2004 to 2025.

Carney is the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and is a Member of Parliament for Nepean.

Carney won the 2025 Canadian elections and delivered a victory speech to supporters, while Poilievre conceded defeat. Carney did not mince words when speaking about U.S. President Donald Trump.

«As I have been warning for months, America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country», - Carney said. «But these are not empty threats. President Trump is trying to break us so America can take us over. That will never happen. … We have survived the shock of betrayal by America, but we must never forget the lessons. We must take care of ourselves. And above all, we must take care of each other».

Like the United States, Canadian citizens who are 18 years old and registered to vote can participate in elections.

In March, Trudeau announced his resignation. Addressing the country, the former Prime Minister claimed that «Canada's parliament has been paralyzed for months after the longest session of a minority parliament in Canada’s history».

«If I have one regretful moment, especially as these elections approach — well, probably many regretful moments that I will think about — but I really regret that we couldn’t change the way we elect our governments in this country so that people could simply rank their second or third choice on the same ballot», - Trudeau added
