Both Perry and Brand gave different answers to the question of the reasons for their divorce. During an interview for Vogue in 2013, Perry said, «At first, when I met him, he wanted equality, and I think many strong men really want equality, but then they get that equality and realize they can’t handle it. He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So it was very hurtful and very controlling, which upset me».
Perry added that she felt «a lot of responsibility for the breakup», - but claimed that she «learned the real truth that I can’t reveal because I keep it in a safe for a rainy day. … I let go and realized: it’s not because of me; it’s above me. So I moved on».
As for Brand, the comedian has openly discussed their breakup several times over the years. Recently, in April 2025, the star of «Get Him to the Greek» talked about their split on his podcast «Stay Free with Russell Brand».
