Learn more about Bannon and his imprisonment below.
In addition to working as a political advisor to Trump and hosting the «War Room» podcast, Bannon has worked in various fields. He served as a US Navy officer from 1977 to 1983, and also worked as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs. In the 1990s, Bannon got a job at Biosphere 2 as the executive director of research. During that time, he also began working in film production, a job he continued until 2016. In the same year, Bannon became the CEO of Trump’s campaign.
After Trump was elected president in 2016, Bannon was appointed as a senior advisor to the president. However, Bannon served under Trump only from January 2017 to August 2017.
Later, Trump commented on Bannon’s dismissal. According to the Florida Times-Union, the former host of «The Apprentice» said, «When he was fired, he not only lost his job, but he lost his mind».
«Steve was an employee who worked for me after I had already won the nomination, beating seventeen candidates often described as the most talented field ever assembled in the Republican Party», - Trump said. «Steve had very little to do with our historic victory, brought about by the forgotten men and women of this country. However, Steve had everything to do with the Republicans losing the Senate seat in Alabama, which they had held for over 30 years. Steve does not represent my base — he is here for himself».
Bannon served his sentence at FCI Danbury prison in Connecticut from July 2024. Before surrendering himself to federal prison, a jury found Bannon guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress: one count for refusing to testify before the House committee on events of January 6, and the other count for refusing to provide documents related to his involvement in Trump’s attempts to overturn his defeat in the 2020 election against President Joe Biden, according to the Associated Press.
The podcaster’s defense team appealed to a federal judge for early release from prison, arguing that Bannon’s case presents «compelling circumstances due to subsequent events discussed above — namely, the realistic prospect that the District Court for the District of Columbia will decide the merits of this case, allowing to demonstrate that this case raises substantial issues and that Mr. Bannon should not serve his full term until the District Court for the District of Columbia or the Supreme Court can consider his case», - according to CNN.
Bannon was released from prison on October 29, 2024 after serving four months of his sentence. His release coincided with the 2024 presidential elections
