Cole Allen was quickly identified as the suspected shooter at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner that took place on April 25, 2026, after Donald Trump confirmed that the shooter had been apprehended. The 31-year-old resident of Torrance, California, sent a manifesto to his relatives just minutes before he claimed to have opened fire at the annual event in Washington, and the public is beginning to learn more about Allen’s personal life and beliefs.
You can read Allen’s manifesto here, as well as find out what we know about his past.
As mentioned, Allen was named the suspected shooter at the event. Authorities apprehended him on April 25 after evacuating Trump and other attendees earlier that evening.
Allen appeared to support Democrats more than Republicans. According to the Associated Press, a yard sign at his family’s home supported a candidate from the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.
Additionally, federal campaign finance records showed that Allen donated $ 25 to a political committee supporting Kamala Harris during her 2024 presidential campaign.
Allen’s manifesto, the full text of which can be read in The New York Post, was apparently written for his relatives, and he described himself as «Cole 'coldForce' 'Friendly Federal Killer' Allen». He began the manifesto by apologizing to those whose «trust [he] undermined», - and wrote that he did not «expect forgiveness».
He also labeled Trump a «pedophile, rapist, and traitor» before listing his targets at the Correspondents' Association dinner.
«Administration officials (excluding Mr. [Kasha] Patel): they are targets, prioritized from highest to lowest ranks», - Allen wrote. «Secret Service: they are targets only if necessary, and should be neutralized non-lethally if possible (i.e., I hope they are in bulletproof vests because hitting center mass with shotguns messes up people who are *not* hotel security: not targets if possible (i.e., if they are not shooting at me)».
Elsewhere in the manifesto, Allen wrote that the staff of the Washington Hilton hotel and dinner guests «are not targets at all». He also criticized the level of security at the event as incompetent.
«As soon as I entered the hotel, I immediately noticed a sense of arrogance», - Allen claimed. «I walk in with several weapons, and not a single person there thinks I could pose a threat. Security at the event is focused only on protesters and current arrivals because it seems no one thought about what would happen if someone registered a day before. This level of incompetence is insane, and I sincerely hope it will be corrected by the time this country has truly competent leadership again»
