The face that sparked interest has reportedly been identified in the case of Brian Thompson’s shooting. The deceased CEO of UnitedHealthcare was shot in a targeted attack on December 4, 2024, outside the Hilton hotel in New York, confirmed the New York Police Department. The police immediately began a manhunt and five days later tracked down 26-year-old Luis Manzione in Altoona, Pennsylvania. According to a new report, he may be a suspect seen on surveillance videos throughout New York.
New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny announced Manzione’s arrest on December 9, 2024.
«The man was apprehended in Altoona, Pennsylvania, this morning. He has been identified as Luigi Nicholas Manzione», - Kenny said. «He is a 26-year-old man, born and raised in Maryland. We know he has ties to San Francisco, California, and his last known address was in Honolulu, Hawaii. He has no prior arrest history in New York».
While the police have not disclosed the suspect in Thompson’s murder, according to the New York Post, Manzione was named as a person of interest in this case. Manzione was apprehended by police at a McDonald’s restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on December 9 — five days after Thompson was shot.
Manzione — an engineer who sparked interest in Thompson’s shooting, told the New York Post. According to the publication, he has not been charged with a crime.
When Manzione was stopped by police in Pennsylvania, he was found with a gun, a silencer, four fake IDs, and a manifesto focused on the profits and motives of the American healthcare system, the publication reports.
Manzione is a staunch supporter in the technology industry, as shown by his X account. Additionally, NYP reported that Manzione had previously «liked» posts on social media from Ted Kaczynski, known as the «Unabomber».
According to a LinkedIn profile apparently belonging to Manzione, he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering, computer, and information science from the University of Pennsylvania.
According to the LinkedIn page apparently belonging to Manzione, he worked as a data engineer at TrueCar, Inc. in Santa Monica, California, for four years. His profile location indicates he is from Honolulu, Hawaii.
Before joining TrueCar, Manzione’s page indicates he was the founder and project leader of a video game development program at the University of Pennsylvania from 2016 to 2020. In 2019, he worked as a senior advisor to an «assistant professor in artificial intelligence» at Stanford University.
While the suspect has not been disclosed by the police, the motive remains unknown. However, reports suggest the shooter may have been unhappy with rumors of excessive spending from UnitedHealthcare. Thompson’s murder has divided social media users, with some condemning him for his multimillion-dollar fortune and presumed lavish lifestyle.
Furthermore, law enforcement sources told NYP that Manzione had reasons to hate the medical industry — due to how his sick relative was treated in the past
