More details about the planned attack on three Taylor Swift performances in Vienna, Austria, as part of the Eras tour, have emerged. According to the Associated Press, two suspects admitted that they planned to «kill as many people as possible outside the concert venue». Additionally, the suspects, according to the publication, were inspired by the Islamic State group and al-Qaeda.
Authorities also noted that one of the suspects is a 19-year-old Austrian citizen who had been planning the attack throughout July. The second suspect is a 17-year-old Austrian.
The Directorate for State Security and Intelligence, Oma Hajdavi-Pirchne, also stated that the main suspect «wanted to carry out an attack outside the stadium, killing as many people as possible, using knives or even explosive devices that he had made».
It was expected that over 60,000 concertgoers would enjoy each show inside the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna. After the planned attack was discovered, the shows scheduled for Thursday, August 8, Friday, August 9, and Saturday, August 10, were canceled, affecting nearly 200,000 fans.
The two suspects in the planned attack were arrested on Wednesday, August 6, according to Franz Ruf, the general director for public safety at the Ministry of the Interior. Barracuda Music announced the cancellations via Instagram.
«Having received confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel three planned shows for the safety of all», - the announcement read.

Swifties found time to come together in Vienna, despite the cancellation of three shows. Countless concertgoers were seen in TikTok videos and other social media posts, all supporting the 34-year-old pop singer and each other as a united fan community.
News of the planned attack surfaced shortly after an attack related to Swift in Southport, England. Last month, three young girls were killed by a 17-year-old boy who entered a children’s dance and yoga class dedicated to Swift, confirmed Merseyside police.
Swift had previously spoken openly about her «fear of violence» affecting her personal life in an interview with Elle in March 2019. At the time, the Grammy winner revealed that she wears a «QuikClot military-grade bandage designed for gunshot or stab wounds».
«Websites and tabloids took it upon themselves to post all of my home addresses online», - explained Swift, adding, «When you have enough stalkers trying to break into your home, you kind of start prepping for bad things».
At the time of publication, Swift had not publicly addressed the planned attack
