As mentioned, Sobule is known for her single «I Kissed a Girl», - a different song from Katy Perry’s hit of the same name. Furthermore, Sobule contributed to writing a song for the Nickelodeon series «Unfabulous», - in which Emma Roberts starred.

Sobule was known for her direct and honest style of songwriting, openly discussing her Jewish heritage and past struggles with anorexia and depression. She talked about her career in an interview for Billboard magazine in 2018, calling herself a «procrastinatrix».

«I went through a long period of finding other things to do and avoiding recording a new album», - Sobule said. «Events happened in my life — a parent’s death, a breakup, a move. I was my own procrastinatrix, that’s what I call it. But I think those events force you back into creative mode, and I started to love music again — love listening, love writing, and the original spirit of why I did it in the first place, I suppose».

Sobule passed away in a house fire in Minneapolis, Minnesota, her publicist reported, according to the BBC.

Two days before the announcement of her death, Sobule took to Instagram and shared that she had «messed up» her back due to sciatica during the tour.

«It was hard being on tour», - she captioned her post from Denver, Colorado. «I somehow messed up my back and have sciatica. Mornings are the worst. Any advice? Any good spine doctors, physical therapists, etc. in Los Angeles? I’ll be there for a few weeks. In the meantime — cartoons».

Sobule also struggled with depression and anorexia throughout her life, which she opened up about in some of her songs
