Thanksgiving is a time for celebration, but also a time for intense travel, which may be complicated by a storm this year.

The storm will pass through parts of the Midwest and South on Wednesday night, spreading to the East by Thanksgiving. Here’s what you need to know about the weather this week and how it may affect your holiday plans.

The Thanksgiving forecast «doesn't look good for much of the East», - according to Weather.com. The report predicts possible thunderstorms in the Southeast, wintry mix and slush around the Great Lakes region, as well as some snow in the Northeast and New England.

Winter storm warnings and advisories are in effect in 14 states, with expected snow amounts up to 7 feet in some mountainous regions, leading to significant travel disruptions ahead of Thanksgiving. Warnings are in place for parts of Colorado, Idaho, Alaska, California, Oregon, and Nevada, while advisories cover Michigan, Maine, Wyoming, New York, Wisconsin, Vermont, New Mexico, and Minnesota. Many of these warnings will be in effect until Wednesday.

Moderate rain and snow are expected in the West, while a new storm is developing over the Great Lakes. This system appears to be relatively light, but may bring rain and wet snow to areas of Michigan and Wisconsin.

The exact path of the storm remains uncertain, making it unclear how it will impact travel. However, significant disruptions may occur, especially as many people in the Eastern U.S. head home later this week, with possible road hazards and traffic.

Travel difficulties are compounded by a strike by workers at Charlotte Douglas Airport on Monday morning, just as Thanksgiving week began. They are protesting unfair labor practices and demanding higher wages.

Meanwhile, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is gearing up for its busiest Thanksgiving travel period ever. TSA expects to screen 18.3 million passengers between Tuesday and December 2, a 6% increase from last year.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will still go on as planned. On Thanksgiving Day, visitors can expect rain, with possible snow in areas north of New York. However, meteorologist Greg Diamond from the Fox Forecast Center assured on Monday that the winds will not be strong enough to affect the iconic balloons.

«Balloons can’t fly if there are sustained winds around 23 miles per hour», - Diamond said. «Right now we’re forecasting wind speeds around 10−15 miles per hour, so there will be some wind, but not enough to ground the balloons, so they will still fly».

A Macy’s representative also confirmed that the parade will go on rain or shine
