The search for Savannah Guthrie’s missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, is ongoing, and new details have emerged. The 84-year-old woman was last seen on January 31, 2026, and was reported missing the following day. So far, no suspects have been named; however, on February 4, unconfirmed information surfaced regarding Savannah’s son-in-law, Tommaso Chioni. The police quickly refuted claims that he is a suspect, but surveillance footage from the FBI has sparked additional interest in finding the person who may have abducted Nancy.
Here’s what we know about Tommaso, Nancy’s son-in-law.
Tommaso is the husband of Savannah’s sister, Annie Guthrie, with whom the Today show host has a close relationship. As a published author, Annie has received support from Savannah over the years, especially when she released her book «Good Darkness» in 2020.
According to People, Savannah spoke enthusiastically about her sister at a cocktail party that year, noting that Annie «has always been my biggest cheerleader» and describing her as «as deep as they come».
«I'm glad the world will get to know the sister I know and grew up with in our little Brady Bunch family», - Savannah added at the time.
Authorities have not made any public statements about Tommaso, but former NewsNation host Ashley Banfield claimed she spoke with a law enforcement source who stated that the police have identified Tommaso as a possible suspect in Nancy’s disappearance.
Neither the Pima County Sheriff’s Office nor other law enforcement representatives have commented on the information regarding Tommaso. However, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told Us Weekly that Annie was the last person to see Nancy before her disappearance.
«We have a starting point», - Sheriff Nanos said earlier this week. «The family brought her home from dinner around 9:30 to 9:45. So we can say that we should start looking from 9 or even 8:30 PM».
The sheriff noted that Annie did not raise any «red flags» about her mother on the day she was last seen. It remains unclear whether her husband, Tommaso, was with her and Nancy on January 31.

The sheriff’s office then released a statement on February 4, stating that «at this time, no suspect or person of interest has been identified».
«Currently, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case», - the statement read. Detectives continue to communicate with anyone who may have had contact with Ms. Guthrie. Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family. While we appreciate the public’s concern, spreading unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not aid the investigation."
As previously mentioned, the sheriff’s department has not named any suspects or persons of interest. Tommaso is not a suspect.
The FBI released surveillance footage from Nancy’s home at the time the perpetrator abducted her. In the images, the person’s face was completely covered by a mask. Their identity remains unknown
