Around 10:30 a.m. local time, a fire broke out in the 1100 block of North Piedra Morada Drive, near the Palisades Hills Recreation Center, as reported by ABC7 Eyewitness News. Smoke filled the sky over the Santa Monica Mountains, causing panic as the fire continued. People shared videos on social media showing huge plumes of smoke filling the sky.

The Los Angeles Fire Department issued a statement on the NotifyLA system, stating: «The fire in Palisades is burning near Palisades Drive. Those nearby should be prepared for a possible evacuation due to the fire, gathering supplies and loved ones».

According to ABC7 Eyewitness News, the fire in Palisades is a brush fire covering 200 acres.

The Los Angeles Fire Department warned residents of Pacific Palisades to leave the area as soon as possible.

«People in the Palisades area need to evacuate immediately due to the rapidly spreading fire», - insisted the fire department. «Pack all people and pets into your car and leave the area immediately. If you are not in the mandatory evacuation zone, stay away from the roads to allow first responders and evacuees to respond quickly».

According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection website, evacuation orders were issued for areas along the Pacific Coast Highway. For these areas, the fire is a «direct threat to life», - and the department informed residents that this is a «lawful order to leave now».

As the fire has already spread to 200 acres in Southern California, it may affect residents in other areas of Los Angeles County. Evacuation warnings have been issued for people around Topanga and Tuna Canyon, according to the department’s website.
