The Los Angeles Police Department is searching for a suspect after two people were fatally shot during a private party at a club near a college. The incident occurred on Friday, October 2, around 11:00 PM local time in the San Fernando Valley, at the Artist Lounge, located near California State University, Northridge.
According to Los Angeles Police Lieutenant Guy Golano, two victims were found at the scene. He added that there is also a possibility of a third victim, and investigators are continuing their search. Witnesses reported that the shooting happened very quickly: one eyewitness stated that the shooter pulled out a gun and aimed at one person, then, turning around, accidentally shot another.
One of the victims was 18-year-old Jaydin Lewis, who, according to his family, was a student at Stoney Point High School and planned to attend college to study marine biology. Tara Maxwell Lewis, Jaydin’s aunt, noted that their family had never faced such a tragedy and urged the shooter to turn themselves in: «Turn yourself in because it’s the right thing to do. We are seeking justice for our family, as well as for the other family».
The second victim, a 19-year-old woman of Hispanic descent, has not yet been named. Following the tragedy, the Artist Lounge announced it would hold a memorial service on Sunday, October 4, in honor of the deceased. In a statement, the club said the incident occurred during a private event for emerging musicians and that, despite the presence of security, someone made the decision to bring violence into their space. Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division at 818−374−9550.
