Trump organized his pre-election rally at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. Many supporters of the Republican candidate lined up at the venue early in the morning.
According to several sources, the police denied the rumors of a bomb threat.
«Reports of explosives being found at the event venue are not true», - said a representative of the Nassau County police, as reported by the New York Post.
Although officers encountered a person «who may have been training a dog to detect explosives near the location», - the police representative added: «This individual with the dog falsely reported the discovery of explosives, and he is currently being detained by the police».
Just days before his rally on Long Island, Trump was attacked at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. A suspect named Ryan Wesley South aimed an AK-style rifle at Trump, then dropped the weapon and fled the scene. He was apprehended by the police shortly after.
Trump updated his supporters in a public statement, saying: «Gunshots were fired near me, but before rumors start spreading, I wanted you to hear it first: I AM SAFE AND IN GOOD CONDITION! Nothing will stop me. I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!»
The FBI is currently investigating the situation.
Two months ago, another person attempted to shoot Trump at a pre-election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. On July 13, Thomas Matthew Crooks fired several shots into the crowd, with one bullet grazing Trump’s ear. The US Secret Service managed to shoot and kill Crooks, who was on a nearby rooftop
