As the anniversary of Virginia football coach Travis Turner’s disappearance approaches, police have made a statement regarding the investigation’s progress. A representative from the Virginia State Police told The Washington Times that the search continues, but unfortunately, there is currently no new information.
Travis Turner, former head coach of the football team at Union High School in Big Stone Gap, went missing on November 20, 2025. He was last seen leaving his home and heading into a wooded area while carrying a firearm. Shortly after his disappearance, Turner was charged with five counts of child pornography and five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor. At that time, authorities were en route to his home to question him regarding these charges.
In March, authorities reported that «there was no credible evidence of Turner’s whereabouts». Captain J. Daniels from the Virginia Bureau of Criminal Investigation noted that the case is being worked on daily, involving both a criminal investigation and search efforts. According to him, all information received has been checked and found to be unsubstantiated. The police have reached out to the public for assistance, emphasizing that someone may have information that could help locate Turner.
The police have processed 178 national and international tips covering seven states, of which 17 were anonymous. All tips received have proven to be unfounded. The Virginia State Police is working closely with U.S. Marshals in the search. A reward of $ 5,000 is still being offered for information regarding Turner’s whereabouts.
Additionally, Virginia has utilized the Black Diamond Search and Rescue team, a nonprofit organization that provides specially trained personnel to search for missing persons in wilderness and rural areas. Turner’s family, including his wife Leslie, released a statement in December 2025 highlighting the seriousness of the situation. The statement noted that Turner’s car and keys were left at home, as well as his contact lenses and glasses. Furthermore, his wallet, license, and all its contents, along with necessary daily medications, were also left behind. The family emphasized that Travis is not prone to disappearing or staying away from home.
