Donald Trump faced another assassination attempt two months after the shooting at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. On September 15, the Republican candidate was playing golf in Florida, where a suspect named Ryan Wesley South reportedly aimed at him on his golf course. The FBI is investigating the situation.
In a statement, the FBI said that the bureau «responded in West Palm Beach, Florida, and is investigating what appears to be an attempt on former President Trump’s life».
Trump updated his supporters in a statement released by his campaign. The statement reads: «Shots were fired near me, but before rumors start spreading, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND IN GOOD CONDITION! Nothing will stop me. I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!»
Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris released a statement regarding the shooting. In a tweet, Harris wrote: «I have been informed about reports of shots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida, and I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America».
More details about the shooter and the alleged assassination attempt can be found below.
Ryan Wesley South was identified as the suspect who aimed at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, with an AK-type weapon, according to multiple sources.
The suspect was described as a white male around 60 years old. After allegedly firing towards Trump’s golf course, South dropped his weapon and fled the scene in an SUV. However, he was apprehended in a nearby area. According to Martin County Sheriff William D. Snyder, South was detained before the FBI reached him on Interstate 95.
«One of my patrol units saw the car, ran the tag and we approached the car», - Snyder said, according to the Associated Press. «We surrounded the car, safely stopped it and took the driver into custody».
South’s motive is still unclear at the time of publication.
On July 13, Thomas Matthew Crouse opened fire on a crowd during a pre-election rally for Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. Crouse was on a rooftop near Trump’s event and shot towards the Republican candidate. One bullet grazed Trump’s ear, while others hit spectators in the crowd. Two people were injured, and one person was killed.
US Secret Service agents were able to shoot and kill Crouse. The motive of the 20-year-old Crouse is still unclear, but it was found that he was a registered Republican. However, in 2021, he reportedly donated $ 15 to the Progressive Voter Project, which is a left-wing group
