In honor of Armed Forces Day in the UK on Saturday, a new portrait of King Charles III, 75, was unveiled.
The image, displayed in the Grand Corridor of Windsor Castle, was taken by Hugo Burnand in November 2023. It shows the king in full military attire adorned with various medals, swords, and decorations — a tribute to the servicemen. This outfit reflects his ceremonial role as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and his position as Field Marshal, the highest rank in the British Army.
In the photo, His Majesty is dressed in his full ceremonial Field Marshal’s cloak with medals, a sword, and decorations.
Photographer Hugo Burnand, 60, has been behind the camera for many official portraits of the monarch since King Charles ascended the throne, including official coronation portraits.
In fact, Burnand took official portraits at Charles and Camilla’s wedding in 2005, as well as at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011.
On this day, which is annually celebrated by staff, families, veterans, and cadets, 76-year-old Queen Camilla expressed words of support to members of the armed forces and their families in a video.
In addition to the portrait and Queen Camilla’s touching tribute, a video was posted on the Instagram account of the Prince and Princess of Wales, featuring Prince William, 42, in full military uniform, and Middleton, 42, wearing armed forces headphones.
The video was accompanied by the caption: «On Armed Forces Day, we thank all those serving in our military, in the UK and around the world, as well as their loved ones supporting them in everything they do for our country»
